Picking Operations Overview

Picking Operations helps you manage the picking process for orders in processing status. Create picking jobs, assign products to specific bins, track what’s been picked, and print picking summaries for warehouse staff. This page shows all products that need to be picked from bins to fulfill orders.

Organize Picking Work

Create picking jobs to organize work efficiently. Group products by location, account, or other criteria for faster picking.

Track Assignments

See which products are assigned to bins and which still need assignment. Track picking progress in real-time.

Print Picking Summaries

Generate picking summaries for warehouse staff. Print lists showing what to pick, from which bins, and in what quantities.

Advanced Filtering

Filter products by account, manufacturer, bin, location, zone, order number, and many other criteria to focus on specific picking tasks.

  1. Navigate to Picking

    Click Picking in the warehouse navigation menu. The page loads showing all products that need to be picked for orders in processing status.

  2. View Product Table

    Browse the table showing key information: Account, Jobs#, Order#, Ship#, Quantity, Unassigned quantity, Assigned quantity, Bin, Location, SKU, Description, and more.

  3. Filter Products

    Use the filter form at the top to narrow down products by account, manufacturer, bins, locations, zones, order numbers, or other criteria.

  4. Create Picking Jobs

    Select products and create picking jobs to organize the picking work.

Located at the top of the page:

Jobs List

View all created picking jobs. See job status, assigned products, and manage existing jobs.

Dashboard

Open the picking dashboard to view statistics, job counts, and picking metrics.

Picking Log

View the picking log showing history of all picking activities and completed jobs.

The picking operations table displays the following information:

  • Account - Account name (AcountID)
  • Jobs# - Picking job number (if assigned to a job)
  • Order# - Customer-facing order number
  • Ship# - Internal system order ID (OrderID)
  • Checkbox - Select products for bulk actions
  • Qty - Quantity needed for the order
  • Unassigned - Quantity not yet assigned to a bin
  • Assigned - Quantity already assigned to a bin
  • Total Qty - Total quantity available in bins
  • Bin - Bin location where product is stored
  • BinTag - Bin tag identifier
  • Location - Warehouse location
  • Lpn - License Plate Number (LPN) for tracking
  • Picture - Product image thumbnail
  • Description - Product description
  • Sku - Product SKU
  • Upc - Product UPC/barcode
  • Zone - Warehouse zone
  • BinCategory - Category of bin (pickable, non-pickable, etc.)
  • Category - Product category
  • Lot# - Lot number (if lot tracking enabled)
  • Expir - Expiration date (if applicable)
  • UOM/UnitFactor - Unit of Measure and conversion factor
  • Manufacturer - Product manufacturer

Customize which columns to display:

  1. Open Column Selector

    Use the column selector dropdown (multiselect) above the table.

  2. Select Columns

    Check or uncheck columns to show or hide them.

  3. Save Preferences

    Your column preferences are saved automatically for future sessions.

Basic Filters:

  • Manufacturer - Filter by product manufacturer (with exclude option)
  • Accounts - Filter by one or more accounts (with exclude option)
  • Bins - Filter by specific bins (with exclude option)
  • Bin Category - Filter by bin category (with exclude option)
  • Job Status - Filter by job status (Working, Incomplete, or no job)
  • Locations - Filter by warehouse locations (with exclude option)
  • Location Range - Filter by location range (e.g., A03-01-A to A10-01-A)
  • Order# - Filter by order numbers (comma-separated: Order#,Order#)
  • Ship# - Filter by ship numbers (comma-separated: Ship#,Ship#)
  • Zone - Filter by zones (comma-separated: Zone,Zone)

Location Range Filter:

The location range filter helps you pick products from a specific area:

  • Letter(s) before first dash - Enter the letter prefix (e.g., “A”)
  • Range of number(s) - Enter the number range (e.g., “01” to “10”)
  • Example: “A” with range “01” to “10” filters locations like A01-01-A through A10-01-A

Quick Filters:

  • Unassigned - Show only products with unassigned quantities
  • Assigned - Show only products that have been assigned to bins

Save Filters:

Save frequently used filter combinations:

  1. Apply Filters

    Set up your desired filter combination.

  2. Click Save Filter

    Click the Save Filter button.

  3. Enter Details

    Enter a name, description, and choose a color for the saved filter.

  4. Save

    Click Save to store the filter.

  5. Load Later

    Click on saved filters from the filter list to apply them quickly.

Create picking jobs to organize picking work:

  1. Select Products

    Check boxes next to products you want to include in the picking job. You can select individual products or use “Select All” to select all visible products.

  2. Open Actions Menu

    Click the Actions dropdown button (blue button with checkmark icon).

  3. Select Create Jobs

    Click Create Jobs from the dropdown menu (or press Alt+P).

  4. Configure Job

    Set job options:

    • Job name or identifier
    • Pick style (FIFO, LIFO, FEFO, etc.)
    • Other job parameters
  5. Create Job

    Click to create the job. Selected products are assigned to the new picking job.

View and manage created picking jobs:

  1. Open Jobs List

    Click JOBS LIST button in the page header.

  2. View Jobs

    See all created picking jobs with their status, assigned products, and details.

  3. Print Picking Summary

    Select jobs and click Print Picking Summary to generate picking lists for warehouse staff.

  4. Delete Jobs

    Select jobs and click Delete Jobs to remove jobs that are no longer needed.

Assign specific quantities to bins for picking:

  1. Find Product

    Locate the product in the table that needs bin assignment.

  2. Check Assignment Status

    Review the “Unassigned” column to see how much quantity still needs assignment.

  3. Select Bin

    The product shows available bins. Choose the bin you want to assign quantity to.

  4. Assign Quantity

    Enter the quantity to assign to the selected bin. The system updates “Assigned” and “Unassigned” columns.

Generate picking summaries for warehouse staff:

  1. Select Products or Jobs

    Select products from the main table or select jobs from the Jobs List.

  2. Open Actions Menu

    Click the Actions dropdown.

  3. Select Print Picking Summary

    Click Print Picking Summary from the menu.

  4. Review Summary

    The picking summary opens showing:

    • Products to pick
    • Bin locations
    • Quantities needed
    • Order information
  5. Print

    Print the summary for warehouse staff to use during picking.

Move bins to different locations:

  1. Select Bin

    Find the bin you want to relocate in the table.

  2. Open Relocate Option

    Click the relocate option for the bin (if available).

  3. Choose New Location

    Select the destination location from the dropdown.

  4. Confirm Relocation

    Click Relocate to move the bin.

Filter by Location

Use location filters to organize picking by warehouse zones. Pick products from one area before moving to another to reduce travel time.

Create Jobs by Account

Group products by account when creating jobs. This makes it easier to track which customer’s orders are being picked.

Use Pick Styles Wisely

Choose the right pick style for your products. Use FEFO for perishable items, FIFO for general products, and Save Space to empty bins first.

Check Unassigned Quantities

Regularly filter by “Unassigned” to see products that still need bin assignment. Complete assignments before creating picking jobs.

Save Common Filters

Save frequently used filter combinations (like “Zone A Unassigned”) to quickly access the same product groups.

Print Summaries Before Picking

Always print picking summaries before sending staff to pick. This ensures they have accurate information about what to pick and where.

Problem: Create Jobs button is disabled or doesn’t work.

Solutions:

  1. Verify you’ve selected at least one product (checkboxes must be checked)
  2. Check if products have unassigned quantities - products with all quantity assigned may not create jobs
  3. Ensure Distribution Jobs feature is enabled in system settings
  4. Refresh the page and try again
  5. Check if you have permissions to create picking jobs
  6. Verify products are from orders in Processing status

Problem: Expected products don’t appear in the picking table.

Solutions:

  1. Check your filters - you may have filters excluding the products
  2. Clear all filters using “Reset Filter” button
  3. Verify orders are in Processing status (not Pending or Shipped)
  4. Check if products have inventory assigned to bins
  5. Ensure Distribution Jobs feature is enabled
  6. Try refreshing the table

Problem: Can’t assign quantities to bins for products.

Solutions:

  1. Verify the bin has available quantity (check Total Qty column)
  2. Check if quantity exceeds available inventory
  3. Ensure bin is in a pickable category
  4. Verify product matches the bin’s SKU
  5. Check if bin is locked or unavailable
  6. Try assigning smaller quantities first

Problem: Jobs List button doesn’t open the jobs modal.

Solutions:

  1. Check browser console for JavaScript errors
  2. Refresh the page and try again
  3. Clear browser cache
  4. Try a different browser
  5. Check if Distribution Jobs feature is enabled
  6. Verify you have permissions to view jobs

Problem: Print Picking Summary doesn’t generate or print.

Solutions:

  1. Verify products or jobs are selected
  2. Check browser popup blockers - allow popups from this site
  3. Try printing from Jobs List instead of main table
  4. Check if products have valid bin assignments
  5. Refresh the page and try again
  6. Use browser’s print function if PDF doesn’t generate

Problem: Applied filters don’t show expected results.

Solutions:

  1. Click “Apply Filters” button after setting filter values
  2. Check exclude checkboxes - you may be excluding what you want to see
  3. Clear filters and reapply one at a time to identify the issue
  4. Verify filter values are correct (check spelling, format)
  5. Reset filters and start over
  6. Check if saved filters are interfering - clear saved filters if needed

Problem: Location range filter doesn’t work as expected.

Solutions:

  1. Understand the format: Letter(s)-Number(s)-Letter(s) (e.g., A03-01-A)
  2. Enter only the letter prefix in “letter(s) before first dash”
  3. Enter number range in “range of number(s)” fields
  4. Example: For A01-01-A to A10-01-A, enter “A” and range “01” to “10”
  5. Check location format matches your warehouse location naming
  6. Try filtering by individual locations first to verify format
